Hello

Sine Curve Willy Laboratories began as a "Silicon Valley" system administration, computer security and quality integration laboratory. The laboratory members have used their accumulated experience to develop more efficient methods for computer and network administration. Whether a system administrator works for a small, large, manufacturing, banking or government facility, there are similarities that exist. By taking advantage of these similarities, and allowing for flexibility in a dynamic, technical world, the results of the research will benefit system administrators.  There are specific members of the laboratory that assess new technology, test drive machines for configuration and performance as well as develop new technology. We are very in tune with groups such as USENIX, FRUUG and LISA as well as Universities that specifically focus on system administration such as CU Boulder, CMU, MIT, UT, WU and UC Berkeley. Some relationships are direct and others are indirect.

All information and results at Sine Curve Willy Laboratories are produced by system administrators. Computer security is multi-dimensional, and complex to maintain effectively. SCWL coordinates its efforts with such entities as the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Computer Security Association (NCSA). This web site is dedicated to providing the results of the research conducted, discussions of topics, including but not limited to the following. Many system administrators are rebellious in nature. Corporate Beauracracy is the last thing they want to deal with. Our stance on quality is that it is totally necessary and parallels the quality of configuration management and the relative security of your site. It is not intended to be another task that a sysadmin should add to their list, but a way to create automated and easy to manage systems that are well documented. Anyone administrating a heterogeneous network and supporting the "latest and greatest" hardware and software, knows that it can quickly become a non-trivial task and sometimes a nightmare to administer if ill-configured. This section should enlighten you with some ideas our research team has devised. Many topics at this site can be controversial, because they may expose weakness in operating systems, networks, phone systems and user operations. This information is invaluable to help a computer site to detect and secure their computers, networks and information. In a parallel universe this same information could be used by hackers. Many of the tools will be rated by the scientists here at Sine Curve Willy Laboratories, and you can assess which tools are the most useful to you. Some of the information was orginally compiled by "The Pantheon Group".
